In 2020, we will use our 70 years of expertise to help the road industry come together, innovate and grow in sustainable ways. Helping the sector meet Demand for passenger transport is expected to grow by 42% by 2050. IRU’s 2050 Decarbonisation Road Map sets out activities to reduce emissions and make road transport greener. Initiatives like the H2Haul project are designed to look into alternative energies for road transport. Making sure Around the world, more than 3,500 people die on our roads every day, totalling around 1.25 million deaths every year. IRU’s second Logistics and Innovation Forum in London in 2020 will look at how the latest, pioneering technologies in road safety can ensure our roads are safer for all users. Reducing the Across Europe, there is a driver shortage of 21% of all commercial freight driver positions. Women drivers make up just 2% of the sector. The average age of a professional driver stands at 50. Together with its members, IRU is launching pioneering industry projects to tackle these issues, including a market study to identify areas of improvement and the best practices to adopt in response.
