2019 is a wrap, here is what we plan for 2020

Here are some of our success stories:     …our border crossing tools led to many firsts TIR also unlocked new opportunities in:  The GCC countries - the first TIR operations  Between Iran and Azerbaijan - the first eTIR operation     …we secured successes for the industry together with our partners and members. Some of them include: The IRU Manifesto presenting our vision for the road transport industry’s next 5 year     Our market intelligence team produced reports that evidence key industry issues and opportunities for the years to come and ways to address them: Driver shortage, innovation and road safety, passenger transport     Our advocacy efforts led to EUR 60 million worth of EU funding to build safe and secure truck parking areas     …we launched IRU Roadmasters, an international certification tool that champions excellence in road transport and creates a real competitive advantage     So what’s next? In 2020, we will use our 70 years of expertise to help the road industry come together, innovate and grow in sustainable ways.     Helping the sector meet its decarbonisation goals     Demand for passenger transport is expected to grow by 42% by 2050.  IRU’s 2050 Decarbonisation Road Map sets out activities to reduce emissions and make road transport greener. Initiatives like the H2Haul project are designed to look into alternative energies for road transport.     Making sure our roads are safer     Around the world, more than 3,500 people die on our roads every day, totalling around 1.25 million deaths every year.  IRU’s second Logistics and Innovation Forum in London in 2020 will look at how the latest, pioneering technologies in road safety can ensure our roads are safer for all users.     Reducing the driver shortage     Across Europe, there is a driver shortage of 21% of all commercial freight driver positions. Women drivers make up just 2% of the sector. The average age of a professional driver stands at 50. Together with its members, IRU is launching pioneering industry projects to tackle these issues, including a market study to identify areas of improvement and the best practices to adopt in response.     To sum it up, our goal for 2020 is safer, more efficient and greener mobility and logistics.  We look forward to taking the next steps of this exciting journey together with you.  Wishing you all a happy holiday season and a prosperous and successful New Year.  IRU, for a world in motion.       Want to connect further?
