UMBERTO DE PRETTO Attracting young drivers: EU dinner debate zeroes in on solutions Exploring solutions to Europe’s driver shortage: Our EU Dinner Dialogue in the European Parliament brought together the sector and public authorities. We’ll be discussing more solutions at an upcoming virtual IRU Intelligence Briefing on 15 November. Border issues in focus as North American industry leaders meet in San Diego IRU President Radu Dinescu and senior executives from Canadian, Mexican and US road transportation companies gathered at IRU’s 2022 North American Transportation Forum Leadership Dialogue to discuss industry challenges. Saudi Arabia’s ever-growing role as a digital transit hub IRU Secretary General Umberto de Pretto held high-level talks in Saudi Arabia on advancing trade and TIR in the GCC region. Following on from their meeting, IRU briefed the logistics sector on safety and professionalisation at a major industry event in Riyadh. FedEx Express joins move to TIR in GCC region FedEx Express has completed its first TIR operation in the GCC, transporting goods from Dubai to Dammam. The TIR truck seamlessly crossed the Batha border in Saudi Arabia in just four hours. Iran and IRU focus on further expanding transit and trade In light of Iran’s growing role in regional trade, IRU Secretary General Umberto de Pretto and Iran’s public and private sectors held high-level talks on avenues for further expansion. Luxembourg: the challenges of decarbonising passenger mobility Georges Hilbert, CEO of Sales-Lentz, told IRU that the lack of alternative fuels infrastructure is challenging, especially as coach travel remains without proper alternatives to diesel.
